On Pro and Business plans, you can connect additional WhatsApp Business numbers and route each one to a different widget and team. This lets you separate departments, regions, or brands so each has its own dedicated WhatsApp number with independent routing and settings.
Why Use Multiple Numbers
- Departments - Give sales, support, and billing each their own WhatsApp number routed to the appropriate team channel
- Regions - Use different numbers for different countries or regions, each routed to a localized team
- Brands - If you operate multiple brands, each brand can have its own WhatsApp presence
- Products - Route inquiries about different product lines to specialized teams
Adding a Number
Open Outbound Settings
Go to Settings > Outbound Settings. You will see your primary WhatsApp number already configured.
Click Add Number
Click Add Number to start the Meta embedded signup flow for an additional phone number. You can add a number from the same Meta Business Account or a different one.
Authorize and Register
Follow the same authorization flow as your primary number. Select the new phone number to register with WhatsApp Business.
Route to a Widget
Assign the new number to a different widget using the Route Inbound to Chat App dropdown. This widget determines which team channel or space receives messages sent to this number.
Configure Settings
Each number has its own session timeout, auto-close, and template settings. Configure these independently based on the team's needs.
How Routing Works
Each WhatsApp number maps to a specific widget. When a customer messages a particular number, Social Intents looks up which widget handles that number and routes the conversation accordingly. The routing is based on the phone number ID from Meta, so there is no ambiguity even with multiple numbers.
| WhatsApp Number | Widget | Team Destination |
|---|---|---|
| +1 (415) 555-0100 | Sales Widget | Teams #sales or Slack #sales |
| +1 (415) 555-0200 | Support Widget | Teams #support or Slack #support |
| +44 20 7946 0300 | UK Widget | Teams #uk-team or Slack #uk-team |
Multi-Config JSON
Additional numbers are stored as a multi-config JSON setting in your account. Social Intents manages this automatically when you add numbers through Outbound Settings. The JSON maps each Phone Number ID to its associated widget, WABA ID, and access token.
Shared vs. Separate AI Chatbots
Because each number routes to a different widget, each widget can have its own AI chatbot with separate training data and AI actions. A sales number can have a chatbot trained on pricing and product information, while a support number can have a chatbot trained on troubleshooting guides.
Preguntas frecuentes
How many numbers can I add?
There is no hard limit on the Social Intents side. The number of WhatsApp Business numbers you can register depends on your Meta Business Account verification level.
Can multiple numbers share the same widget?
Each number routes to one widget, but you can route multiple numbers to the same widget if you want all messages to arrive in the same team channel.
Do I need separate Meta Business Accounts?
No. You can register multiple phone numbers under a single Meta Business Account. You can also connect numbers from different Meta Business Accounts if needed.
